MOUNTAIN RETREAT
Norfolk, Connecticut
The owners acquired this unique property, which featured a home designed by local architect Alfredo Taylor in 1917. Although the structure had fallen into disrepair, it contained distinctive elements that the clients wished to preserve in the new design. Our design honors the original home with an open first floor that flows into a sweeping covered rear porch. A mid-level reading nook off the main staircase leads to a second-floor family room, offering stunning mountain views. Adjacent to the family room, a pocket bar—named the "Monkey Bar" for its playful wallpaper—adds character. The first floor also features a three-season screened porch with a stone fireplace and views of the tennis court, perfect for quiet afternoons. The kitchen, with its breakfast nook connecting to both the kitchen and dining areas, is designed for seamless entertaining.
